About Us
Our website maintains a comprehensive, searchable record of every fatality that has occurred during any police encounter in the United States, regardless of type, and without judgment. This includes deaths from direct police use of force [gunshots, tasers, K9, and other immediate lethal police action], as well as fatalities linked to police activities and interactions controlled by police that lead to death. These encompass high-speed pursuits (including deaths of drivers, passengers, bystanders, and pedestrians), collisions involving police vehicles, drownings during police chases, falls from heights during pursuit, asphyxiation during restraint, and suicides occurring in the context of police operations, often during SWAT incidents. Our goal is to present the full spectrum of how fatalities occur during police encounters, so the data can be studied, patterns can be recognized, and lessons can be learned.
The database is fully searchable by state, case type, name, date, race, and various keywords, allowing researchers, journalists, advocates, and the public to locate detailed information quickly and efficiently. This is an independent, volunteer-driven project funded entirely out of pocket. We work without pay, our platforms are not monetized, and we rely solely on donations and small “coffee tip” contributions to cover ongoing hosting, maintenance, and technical support. Every contribution helps keep this resource available and up to date.
All materials on this website are protected by copyright. We reserve the right to prevent misuse or distortion of our content, but we actively encourage positive, accurate, and educational use for research, reporting, and public awareness. Each case page can be shared directly on social media by double-clicking the name of the deceased, which will open the individual case page, then copying and posting the URL. We welcome the sharing of any case in good faith, provided our work is credited and used in ways that further informed discussion, study, and understanding.
