Loveland PD Officer Dylan Miller was arrested and later terminated and charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors, including kidnapping, sex assault on a child in a position of trust, unlawful sexual conduct by a peace officer, sex assault, official misconduct and official oppression.
Officer Miller had targeted a 15-year-old girl whom he found sitting in a park in Loveland and sent her teenage male companion home but detained her for the same “offense” of being in a park after hours. The girl reported that Officer Miller had removed his BWC camera and his name tag before walking her to a secluded area and sexually assaulting her. He had originally seen the girl at a traffic stop and later the same night saw her at a park and decided to target her. Officer Miller told her that her alleged offense of being in the park after closing time could not be handled “verbally” and would have to be handled “physically,” before the sexual assault. He threatened her into silence and demanded to know if she knew his name. She did not. He had removed his name tag and worn only his uniform at the second encounter in the park when he forced her aside and assaulted her.
The girl was reportedly traumatized and took several months to find the courage to report the incident. She did not know Miller’s name but identified him readily from photos of the Loveland officers. Miller was arrested and charged. The PD has gone public with the story, asking any other victims to contact them. His trial is pending.
