-A total of 332 of these victims were shot and killed by police.
-A total of 64 of these victims died by suicide under police duress.

The unintended/collateral fatalities (bystanders, passengers and pedestreians) combined exceeds the number of people killed who were the intended police target.

Additional: A total of 115 people have been found dead in jail so far in 2025. We do not count in-custody fatalities in our fatality totals as it is impossible to get accurate numbers due to lack of transparency. We do list such cases in the database while excluding them from the count as we find them because they are not recorded by any other public database due to lack of consistent public disclosure. All cases are people arrested but not convicted. Very scant data exists of deaths in correctional institutions (post conviction) and we are unable to get any data at all. There were nearly 5,000 fatalities in jails and correctional facilities combined in the year 2022, the last year when government disclosed any numbers.
