Deputy James Henry Carter, III had hunted the man by car for reasons which were never disclosed. After a car chase, Deputy Carter captured the man, cuffed him, grabbed the handcuffed man by the neck, dropped him to the ground, punched him unconscious, then ridiculed him when he regained consciousness and asked him if he had “enjoyed his little nap.”
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office took many months to respond but did terminate Deputy Carter on November 17, 2023. He is only terminated and not decertified and can find another police job without problem even in the same state with this status.
He was arrested and released and will face some sort of court repercussions.
