The family of Adjessom who was shot and killed in his home in a predawn raid and sudden police entry into the home for still undisclosed reasons is joined by the family of Jawan Dallas, a young man tasered to death by Mobile PD on 07/02/2023. Kordell Jones was executed during a SWAT raid on his home. Details are extremely contested. The family has hired a lawyer as this is a serious human rights crime. More details on this case are here.

DEMOGRAPHICS OF MOBILE, ALABAMA

The current population of Mobile, Alabama is182,068 based on our projections of the latest US Census estimates.The last official US Census in 2020 recorded the population at 186,411.
Our record shows that by November 15, 2023, eight people were killed by Mobile PD in the first 10.5 months of the year. Seven out of eight of them are black residents. Seven out of eight is 87.5% of the “officer-involved” fatalities are African American compared to a total population of Mobile being 52.53%. All cases are listed and linked above. In the cases above of missing photos, we were able to identify their race as black.
PAST PROBLEMS INVOLVING THE MOBILE POLICE DEPARTMENT
A severely violent arrest of a black teenager in October of 2023 is here. A girl had gotten into an argument at Accel Academy and was jumped by a moonlighting Mobile PD officer, body-slammed and violently arrested. The officer had the bodycam turned off at the time. Bystander video was secured and is linked above. The FBI and DOJ are involved in a human rights investigation in this severe police assault on a minor.
Beezer Dubose Jr.
Another video appeared in the news on the same day, the very violent arrest of Beezer Dubose Jr. at a gas station. That bystander video is here. Dubose was traffic-stopped by Mobile PD for the suspicion of having marijuana in his car and the violent arrest in the above-linked video was the result. After a severe beating, he was arrested for marijuana possession, resisting arrest and secondary assault. This man was stopped, severely beaten and arrested for nothing more than having some cannabis on him. The other charges are a result of him visibly trying to only get away from violent officers beating the handcuffed man and kneeling on him. The officer later claimed the man had grabbed his genitals and squeezed. This is not visible on video but could possibly have occurred in self-defense. Overt violence from the man under attack is not able to be seen in the video but claimed by police. The officer who severely beat him was Officer Paul Callegari.
Both cases surfaced on October 12, 2023, two separate assaults on black citizens of Mobile.
On 06/23/2022, Mobile resident Byonca Logan filed a lawsuit against Mobile PD and officer Michael Israel.Officer Israel had been stalking Ms. Logan at her other job in a flirtatious manner. She rejected his advances and Officer Israel had begun sending her flirtatious text messages after having obtained her cell phone number through a police matter. She stated that he had caused a scene at her job when she rejected his advances. She saw him again when he showed up for unknown reasons at her other job, a lounge, where he entered and she turned away when she saw that he was among the officers. She tried to avoid him based on his past inappropriate behaviors but he walked toward her, accused her of having hit him, twisted her arm behind her back, breaking the bones. Pere the lawsuit, she had never resisted, threatened him and also done nothing to cause the attack on her.
On 2021, Mobile PD fired officer Cage for going to a park off-duty in his police uniform and markedhttps://ktvz.com/news/national-world/2021/04/20/mobile-als-top-cop-talks-about-bizarre-sexual-extortion-allegations-against-fired-officer/ car and creating what is described as a bizarre sexual blackmail situation involving two females. The PD was very mum about it and fired the officer. The same officer had already been recycled from the DOC as a known bad cop when he was forced to leave the corrections officer job after he was involved in a violent stabbing incident of an inmate.
Yet another violent arrest of a black man by a white Mobile PD officer caused an outcry for racial justice in 2020. The video can be found here.
In 2014, Mobile PD had to fire one of its sergeants because he had developed a method of using outstanding warrants to show up at women’s homes, often in the middle of the night, under the pretense of serving the warrant and leaving without any arrests while several women in this situation had accused him of inappropriate conduct in these trips in which he used warrants he did not serve as a reason to meet women.
