Florida Wildlife Commission cops murder pet deer with a pocket knife

Baboo was a deer who had been raised by a local neighbor in Palm Coast, FL. Baboo was known in the neighborhood where he lived. On October 5, 2023, Baboo got out of his yard and allegedly attacked and injured someone. No detail was revealed by Florida Fish and wildlife what caused the next events but this Florida agency dispatched its officers to catch Baloo. They caught the young male deer and when he was restrained, police allegedly took out a small pocket knife and spent several minutes creating a bloodbath by cutting through the completely restrained animal’s throat with a small pocket knife. After the butchery with the deer still left alive, they finally shot and killed him in front of its owners and horrified neighbors.

By all accounts, Baboo was not a dangerous animal and known to be a pet. Deer can sometimes charge humans. It is unclear why he could not be relocated to a wild herd but even if the state of Florida deems killing him as being necessary, it is inexcusable that at least more humane euthanasia was not carried out and it seems equally cruel and unnecessary that the pet deer was butchered brutally in front of his helpless owners.
