The most recent burglary occurred in East Hampton where Officer Hemingway backed his SUV up to a Mexican restaurant, used a lock-picking device to enter and stole an entire cash register which contained only a disappointing $150-200. He tried breaking into another facility and failed.
Officer Hemingway had been employed by the Glastonbury and also New Britain police departments where he was found to have misused a police database to plan his crimes. He is believed to have committed 30 or more such targeted burglaries in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He targeted safes and cash registers in businesses and used his wife’s Jeep for the heists. Police found that he had accessed the police database more than 80 times to see if he was under investigation in this burglary period which lasted 2 ½ years.
