Houston PD chase of car that smelled of weed ends at tree

On November 22, 2024, at around 1 a.m., Houston Police officers conducted a traffic stop after smelling marijuana coming from a vehicle. The driver fled the scene, dragging one officer briefly. The officer hung onto the car but ultimately let go. The police escalated their response, initiating a pursuit of the vehicle. However, during the chase, the pursuing officer crashed into a tree on Woodland Park Drive while speeding after the weed offender. The driver was eventually apprehended. Both officers were hospitalized but are expected to recover. The driver faces charges for evading arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer as the War on Drugs generates new crime.
