Officer Michael Owen of Prince George County PD was just acquitted for shooting and killing a handcuffed man in the back of his cruiser
William Green, 43, was handcuffed in the back of the cruiser of Officer Michael Owen. Officer Owen stated that there was a “struggle” with him and Green over his service weapon. This should be recorded on cameras inside of the cruiser but this is unverifiable without release of records available only to the jury at this time. Officer Owen alleges that Green was under the influence of drugs and incoherent, came to and a struggle ensued. It is unclear how this affected Owen as Green was handcuffed and allegedly secured in the backseat but no video was released to explain this story. Owen alleges that somehow, Green got hold of his gun and that he took it back and fired six shots into Green. The prosecution argued that Green was no threat whatsoever to Owen.
The family of Green won a $20 million settlement from Prince George County. Officer Owen was acquitted this week.
