On 09/27/2025, Gwinnett County Deputy Tamara Tuitt-Bartlett was shot and killed in a domestic-related incident at a townhouse in the Villages at Shakerag subdivision in Johns Creek, Forsyth County. Her teenage son was also shot multiple times but survived after fleeing to a neighbor’s house for help. Responding officers found Tuitt-Bartlett dead in an upstairs room. The shooter, identified as Eric Sumner, fled the scene and was later captured in Monroe County following a chase on Interstate 75. He faces charges of murder, aggravated assault with intent to murder, and multiple firearm offenses. Tuitt-Bartlett had served nearly 20 years with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
