On 12/23/2025, Delaware State Police Corporal Grade One Matthew T. Snook was shot and killed during an ambush at the Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles in the Wilmington area while working an overtime security assignment inside the building. An individual opened fire inside the DMV and struck Snook multiple times. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. A responding New Castle County police officer shot and killed the shooter at the scene. The incident triggered a multi-agency response and an ongoing investigation.
