On 12/31/2025, John Raymond Nicholson died in a single-vehicle crash in Anne Arundel County hours after celebrating his retirement from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Police said Nicholson was driving a Dodge pickup truck on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved. Anne Arundel County police are investigating the crash.
