On 12/28/2025, Blount County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Justin Mowery was killed in a vehicle crash while attempting to stop a motorcyclist in the Lenoir City area. According to authorities, the deputy initiated a traffic stop after observing the motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed and refusing to stop. During the pursuit, Deputy Mowery’s patrol vehicle crashed, resulting in fatal injuries. Investigators later identified a Lenoir City man as the motorcycle rider and charged him in connection with the pursuit that preceded the deputy’s death. Witnesses reported observing the chase, and investigators stated the rider was aware law enforcement was attempting to stop him. The investigation into the crash and related charges remains ongoing.
