OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/30/2023, McAllen police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of North 23rd Street. During the stop, officers reported that Border Patrol agent Ronaldo Alvarado, 25, fired shots at law enforcement. Officers returned fire and struck Alvarado in the temple. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from gunshot wounds. Authorities reported one firearm was involved. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
