On 02/06/2025, Kelvin O. Patrick, a 68-year-old retired Police Officer with the Detroit Police Department, died from complications related to gunshot wounds he sustained in the line of duty on 05/24/1996. During that incident, Patrick and his partner were ambushed while on patrol; he was shot multiple times, including a bullet that pierced his spine and left him partially paralyzed. Despite his injuries, he continued to serve the department for another decade before medically retiring. His death in 2025 was recognized as resulting from the long-term effects of those line-of-duty wounds.
