On June 4, 2024, Sergeant Brenda J. Lowery, 55, a correctional deputy with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Cecil County Detention Center in Elkton, Maryland, died following a fatal heart attack after working the night shift. Officials reported her collapse occurred in connection with her work shift and was treated as a job related medical fatality. A medical/rescue response transported her to Christiana Hospital, where she passed away. No weapon was involved in her death, and this was not a police encounter. Body-worn or dash camera footage does not apply to this non-incident.
