OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/27/2023, Alaska State Trooper Matthew Worland was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Airport Way in Fairbanks. Authorities reported that during the stop, a man inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Worland. Other troopers responded and located Worland with critical injuries. He was transported for medical care and later died from his injuries. Worland had served with the Alaska State Troopers for approximately 13 years and was assigned to the Fairbanks post at the time of his death.
