On 08/10/2022, North Strabane Township Police Officer Chad M. Beattie was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Pennsylvania State Route 519 in Washington County. Authorities reported that during the stop, a man inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Beattie. Other officers responded and transported him for medical treatment, but he died from his injuries. Beattie had served with the North Strabane Township Police Department for several years and was 41 years old at the time of his death.
