On 07/19/2022, Grand Isle Police Chief Christopher John Marcello was killed in a vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1 while responding to a call for service. Authorities reported that his patrol vehicle struck a utility pole during the response. Marcello died from injuries sustained in the crash. He had served as chief of the Grand Isle Police Department and was 50 years old at the time of his death.
