On 01/23/2022, Deputy Jailer Gregory L. Means of the Casey County Detention Center died from complications of COVID-19 after contracting the virus in the line of duty during an outbreak among employees and people detained at the jail. ODMP lists him as a line-of-duty death, identifies his end of watch as January 23, 2022, and reports that he was 60 years old and had served more than 20 years with the detention center. His obituary says he was Gregory Lloyd Means of Liberty and that he died at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.
