OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/17/2021, Blair County corrections officer Rhonda Jean Russell was shot and killed after an inmate attacked her and took her firearm in a holding area at the Central Court building at 615 Fourth Street in Altoona while awaiting a hearing. A police sergeant attempting to stop the inmate fired but struck Russell during the struggle. She was taken to UPMC Altoona, where she died.
