On 11/02/2021, Pittsburgh Police Sergeant Timothy Werner died from complications of COVID-19 after contracting the virus in the line of duty. He was entering his 22nd year with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and had served in Zones 4 and 5 before being assigned as a supervisor in the property room at police headquarters. He died at UPMC Mercy Hospital at age 49. Werner was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had spent more than two decades with the department.
