On 11/02/2021, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Corrections Officer V. Kevin Dupree died from complications of COVID-19 after contracting the virus while assigned to the Powledge Correctional Unit in Palestine. He had served with the agency for 28 years and was also a United States Air Force veteran. Dupree worked in a custodial environment with close, continuous contact with incarcerated populations during the pandemic. He died at age 66 and is survived by his two children.
