On 10/28/2021, Franklin County Deputy Sheriff Billy Joe Ihrig died from complications of COVID-19 after contracting the virus in the line of duty while working in a custodial environment. He had served with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years and previously served 13 years in the United States Marine Corps. Ihrig was 52 years old and died at his home in Hilliard. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
