OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/28/2021, Detective James R. Peri was hospitalized after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty while serving with the Bloomfield Police Department. He remained hospitalized for more than three weeks before dying from complications of the illness on 10/22/2021. Peri had served with the Bloomfield Police Department for 11 years after previously serving five years with the Passaic Police Department, for a total of 16 years in law enforcement. He was promoted to detective in 2014 and also served on the Essex County Task Force. He is survived by his wife, Michele, and their two children, Quinci and Logan.
