OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/16/2021, Sergeant Richard Charles Howe contracted COVID-19 in the line of duty while serving with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. He died from complications of the illness on 10/21/2021. Howe had served with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for 24 years and was assigned to the Training Academy. During his career he also served in Zone 5 Patrol, the Canine Unit, and the Office of Municipal Investigations. He was a firearms instructor, K-9 handler, and member of the department's Honor Guard. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, parents, and siblings.
