OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/18/2026, 57-year-old Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon was found dead at his residence on Wildwood Avenue in Worcester, Massachusetts. Solomon was off duty at the time and had served approximately 31 years with the Worcester Police Department as a patrol officer.
.
Police were sent to the residence shortly before approximately 5:30 a.m. following a report of a medical emergency. Subsequent reporting places Solomon's body in the backyard of the residence, where investigators later erected a crime-scene tent. Authorities have not publicly disclosed his cause of death or precisely what injuries were found.
.
Investigators immediately began searching for Karen Solomon, 58, who lived at the residence. Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. publicly described her as a suspect and said authorities were treating Solomon's death as a domestic-violence matter. Police warned that Karen Solomon was presumed to be armed and dangerous.
.
Karen Solomon was seen leaving the area on foot. Police subsequently released surveillance video showing her walking near the Coes Pond area at approximately 5:41 a.m., shortly after officers were summoned to the residence. An extensive search followed involving Worcester police and state and federal law-enforcement agencies, with officers searching the Coes Reservoir area and surrounding neighborhoods.
.
Public records and earlier statements identify Karen Solomon as Kurt Solomon's wife. The Associated Press found that the couple jointly owned the Wildwood Avenue residence, and a 2016 bankruptcy filing identified Karen as Kurt's wife. Authorities themselves have declined to discuss their relationship in detail because of Massachusetts restrictions concerning information in domestic-violence investigations.
.
Karen Solomon is the co-founder of First H.E.L.P., an organization devoted to first-responder mental health, suicide prevention and assistance to families of first responders who die by suicide. She previously helped establish Blue H.E.L.P. and has written books concerning police suicide and the psychological pressures experienced by law-enforcement officers. First H.E.L.P. issued a statement following Kurt Solomon's death expressing condolences while declining to comment on the active investigation.
.
Kurt Solomon was identified publicly by the New England Police Benevolent Association and the local police union. Union officials described him as an exceptionally dependable longtime officer. He is survived by two sons, Niklas and Brandon; his mother, Shirley; and brothers Karl and Eric.
