According to the Mineola Police Department, around 2:41 p.m. on 12/22/2022, their officers responded to a theft at a Walmart on 135 NE Loop 564.They attempted to stop the person from driving out of the parking lot. The driver drove onto the northbound Highway 37. Officers chased the vehicle on Highway 37 into Quitman and later shot the person for unclear reasons near Highway 154 and Highway 37, officials said. DPS clarified the person did not shoot at officers. It is unknown if they were armed.
