At approximately 7:40 a.m. Friday, a trooper observed an eastbound Jeep Wrangler driving on the shoulder near mile marker 354 on Interstate 80. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued and the trooper escalated a chase to 100 mph.
The vehicle exited and then entered a field and continued fleeing southbound. When the vehicle drove through a fence and continued into a pasture and York County and Seward County deputies then picked up the chase until the suspect vehicle struck a bridge guardrail and crashed, ejecting both occupants, killing Melissa Hernandez.
