Open Records Summary :

Waterloo PD went to a call about an alleged armed man waving a pistol near a business. Police arrived and began firing beanbags at Ahrens and shot and killed him. Police used the explanation that he “pointed a gun” at them as reason to shoot him. The “gun” had been a brown Airsoft pistol that on evidence photo does not look very authentic. Ahrens was unarmed when killed. He had apparently been unhoused.
