Open Records Summary :

Ashton Jashod Mingle died Sunday in a single-vehicle accident during a high-speed car chase initiated the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office after a failed traffic stop.
Police said Mingle was driving on a suspended license and was wanted on a felony warrant. Officer Walden escalated a chase that ended when As Mingle approached the Bulloch-Candler line, near Lotts Creek, accelerated and struck a bridge that caused his vehicle to crash into the water.
Black said deputies jumped into the water, freed Mingle from his crashed vehicle and took measures to attempt to revive Mingle that proved unsuccessful. Mingle, 27, was pronounced deceased after the arrival of EMS.
Police besmirched his reputation and publicized that he had been convicted of a sale/distribution of marijuana offense and was supposed to be on parole until May 2025. This may explain his fear of police when he was guilty only of driving without a valid license and also illustrates how little police can find to justify this fatal chase if they feel they must bring up an old marijuana conviction to explain their own actions.
