LAPD and SWAT were both called as backup for the fire department which claimed that Leron James had pointed a gun. Police arrived and escalated pressure on him, claimed that he opened a window and fired at them. Police snipers shot and killed him. An officer was suspended for 2 days when it was discovered on WBC audit that he had commented “happy hunting!” to the other officers just before the fatal rifle shots by SWAT.
