The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force acted on a call that a possibly unhoused man was walking around wearing a tarp, using a cane and looking over neighborhood fences. Police responded with aggressive maneuvers, also unleashing two K9 on him. He tried to defend himself against the attacking dogs by pulling a knife and allegedly caused some unknown injury to them. Police shot and killed him. Police pointed out that 9 years ago, he had been involved in a family dispute with shots fired in which nobody was killed. This was not known to police when they killed him and trotting out this old unrelated incident bears no connection to the reasons he was killed and may serve only as distraction and to discredit him. Police have not explained why he was attacked with dogs and police guns for the stated offense of appearing unkempt and looking over fences which is not a crime.
