OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/01/2026, Chicago Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired in the Englewood neighborhood near the 6400 block of South Peoria Street. Officers located a man inside a residence who refused commands and barricaded himself for approximately nine hours. CPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was called to the scene and attempted negotiations. According to police, after prolonged negotiation efforts, the man was located inside the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. CPD officers did not fire their weapons. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement has stated that the incident remains under review by the department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs.
