OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/04/2026, deputies from the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a male subject driving a pickup truck on a rural unpaved road in Garvin County, Oklahoma. The driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. During the course of the encounter, officers lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly afterward, the male driver was found deceased due to an explosion involving his vehicle or explosive device, according to law enforcement. Authorities reported responding units were in the vicinity when the blast occurred; at least one explosive device was believed to be involved. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers assisted at the scene, and the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal and bomb squad were requested to investigate the cause of the explosion. Investigators stated there was no indication that law enforcement fired weapons at the subject before the explosion, and the blast is under active investigation to determine whether it was self-activated. No officers were reported injured during the incident.
