OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/01/2026 just after 4:15 a.m., a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a vehicle without lights and a license plate in Loveland. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and accelerated, evading the deputy and initiating a high-speed pursuit on northbound Interstate 25, with speeds reaching up to 120 mph. The vehicle exited at Mountain Vista and continued onto Vine Drive/Weld County Road 84. The driver lost control, struck a utility pole, and the vehicle rolled. Two male occupants were ejected. Jose Meza, 23, of Loveland, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second man, X-avier Cruz, 19, also of Loveland, was transported to a hospital where he later died. A female occupant was extricated and taken to an area hospital with injuries. Deputies did not make contact with the vehicle before the crash, and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office CRASH Team and Forensics Unit processed the scene. The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased.
