OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On February 3, 2026, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 8400 block of South Maryland Parkway after a report of a domestic dispute in which a man was battering a woman and attempting to take their child. Police said officers were advised en route that the suspect had fired a handgun in the apartment complex parking lot. Upon arrival, the woman reported the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Quinton Baker, was inside the residence armed and holding his 3-year-old son, Kentre Baker, against his will. Officers issued verbal commands for Baker to surrender; he exited the apartment holding the child and a firearm. Police said Baker refused to drop the weapon and approached officers while still holding the child, prompting Officers Jonathan Lo and Damon O’Donnell to discharge their firearms, striking Baker. Simultaneously, police said Baker fired his weapon, striking the child. Both Baker and Kentre were struck by gunfire; medical crews transported Kentre to a hospital where he died, and Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. Body-worn camera and further investigative details have been released as the department continues its review of the incident.
