OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/03/2026, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded around 1:20 a.m. to the 8400 block of South Maryland Parkway after reports of a domestic disturbance and gunfire at an apartment complex. Police said Quinton Baker had fired a handgun and was holding his young child inside the residence. Officers established contact and issued commands for Baker to drop the firearm. Police said Baker exited while holding the child and a handgun. Officers opened fire. Police said Baker also fired his weapon during the confrontation. Both Baker and the child were struck by gunfire. Medical personnel transported the child to a hospital where the child died. Baker died from gunshot wounds. Family members later identified the child publicly and expressed concerns and questions about the shooting. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that body-worn camera footage and a use-of-force review are part of the ongoing investigative process.
