On 02/02/2026, the Colorado Springs Police Department was concluding a fugitive operation in the area of East Bijou Street and Balfour Avenue when officers attempted contact with a male unrelated to the original operation. Police said the male fled on foot and fired a handgun at officers, striking one officer. Two officers then discharged their service weapons, striking the male. The male, identified by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as 35-year-old Michael Foster, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his gunshot injuries.
