OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/03/2026 at about 4:49 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on Fond du Lac Avenue and West Locust Street for a registration violation, after which the driver fled, prompting a vehicle pursuit that continued westbound. The pursuit ended near the 9800 block of West Lisbon Avenue, where the driver exited the vehicle and ran on foot. Officers observed Joshua Wippert armed with a firearm during the foot chase, issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon, and then discharged their firearms after he did not comply. Wippert was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Police recovered his firearm at the scene. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team, with the Brookfield Police Department as lead investigative agency, is handling the investigation. Body-worn camera footage has been released in accordance with department policy.
