On 02/03/2026, New York State Police troopers responded to a residence on Military Turnpike in Altona where a 62-year-old man with an active arrest warrant had barricaded himself inside. Members of the NYSP Special Operations Response Team and the Crisis Negotiations Unit engaged in efforts to resolve the situation. Police said the man refused to surrender and remained inside the residence. After law enforcement used a drone to assess the interior, troopers located the man inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or other civilians were reported hurt during the standoff.
