On 02/02/2026, Tupelo Police Department officers located a vehicle reported stolen and confirmed it matched the description of the stolen vehicle. An officer attempted a traffic stop near North Gloster Street and Barnes Crossing Road. When the vehicle did not stop, officers initiated a pursuit. The vehicle continued south, struck a curb while turning, and crashed into a tree on Mall Drive. Officers did not discharge firearms to stop the vehicle. Emergency responders found multiple juveniles inside the vehicle, began rendering aid, and transported occupants to a hospital. Eleven-year-old Chance Dunnam later died from injuries sustained in the crash at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
