OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/03/2026 at approximately 11:34 p.m., an East Cleveland Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop near Hayden and Alder avenues. The vehicle failed to stop, and when the officer began to exit the patrol unit, the vehicle fled. The officer briefly pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens activated but terminated the chase due to safety concerns related to speed and road conditions. Shortly afterward, the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed near the intersection of East 133rd Street and Fourth Avenue in East Cleveland. A 48-year-old male passenger was pinned under the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at University Hospitals in Cleveland around 12:16 a.m. The driver’s condition was reported as unknown. The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department responded to investigate the crash at the request of East Cleveland Police, but the sheriff’s office was not involved in the initial traffic stop, pursuit, or operation of the vehicle preceding the crash.
