OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On the morning of February 5, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded after Los Angeles Fire Department personnel called to report a man in possession of a rifle near the parking lot of the California Science Center at 700 Exposition Park Drive in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Officers located 39-year-old Holman Gomez seated on a concrete bench and verbally engaged him. Police said Gomez stood, holding a rifle, and pointed it in the officers’ direction, prompting officers to fire. Gomez was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the location by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. An air rifle was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. LAPD’s Force Investigation Division assumed investigative responsibility, and the department has authorized release of the involved officers’ names.
