On 02/06/2026, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded before dawn to reports of attempted vehicle break ins near Clairmont Road and Hendricks Avenue. Officers located a red SUV reported stolen in January and attempted a traffic stop after observing it speeding through San Marco. The driver continued driving and police disengaged shortly afterward. Within minutes the SUV lost control near Nira Street and Kings Avenue, flipped, and struck utility poles. One man died at the scene and three occupants were transported to hospitals where another man later died. The surviving occupants included one critically injured and another listed stable. Investigators reported the vehicle occupants may have been connected to the attempted theft but said identities and roles were still being determined.
