OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/08/2026, Elkhart Police officers approached a parked vehicle in the High Dive Park Pavilion lot after the park had closed. Officers spoke with the driver and passengers, then called a second officer to the scene. About 13 minutes after first contact, both officers fired their weapons and struck a 17 year old male inside the encounter area. Medics transported him to a hospital where he died. Investigators seized multiple handguns found inside and around the vehicle and took both officers’ firearms as evidence. Authorities placed the officers on administrative leave while the Elkhart County Homicide Unit conducts the investigation.
