On 02/08/2026, Hoover Police officers went to a residence in the 2000 block of River Lake Drive after receiving a call about a person in distress. Upon arrival, a 38 year old male fired a handgun during the encounter, striking a police officer and Glenn Adrian Griggs, who was found in a driveway and pronounced dead at the scene. Officers fired their weapons during the confrontation and struck the shooter. Authorities transported the wounded officer to a hospital where he was reported stable. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation assumed control of the investigation because officers discharged firearms.
