On 02/08/2026, Rosolando V. Givens, a 52 year old Troy resident, died after a vehicle crash on Elm Street near the Troy University campus during a police pursuit that began around 1:48 a.m. A university police officer observed a parked vehicle and attempted to make contact, after which the driver accelerated away at high speed and police followed a short distance. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Givens, who was driving a 2008 Audi A4, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as the driver and confirmed he was not a university student. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division assumed investigation of the crash.
