On 03/27/2026, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper was struck from behind by a vehicle on Interstate 15 near 4500 South in Murray. The driver, Sayed Mousavi, exited the vehicle holding a knife. The trooper opened fire, striking him multiple times. Additional troopers arrived at the location. Mousavi died from his injuries. Authorities stated he had previously been charged in 2024 with felony terrorism after making threats about carrying out violence.
