On 03/24/2026, Arkansas Department of Corrections officers and other law enforcement agencies searched for Christopher Lee Johnston following a double shooting in Independence County. After a search lasting more than 30 hours, officers located Johnston near Brown Lane in Batesville. During the encounter, officers opened fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead. Authorities reported the search followed a shooting incident in which two people were injured. Arkansas State Police are investigating the shooting.
